Cook Time:10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar cane, brown, maple syrup, or monk fruit are all good options
  • 3 tablespoons pureed/canned pumpkin
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Combine water, sugar, pumpkin, and pumpkin pie spice in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Bring mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
  • Reduce heat to a simmer. Continue to simmer while sugar dissolves. Keep stirring frequently.
  • Add in vanilla extract and allow to simmer for another 3 or so minutes. This will allow the alcohol flavor to cook out. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Use a fine mesh strainer to get all of the pumpkin bits out. Repeat this process twice if necessary.
  • Store in a glass bottle or jar in the fridge.

Notes

Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Syrup?

Please note that I haven't tried this personally, but I have had it suggested to me that granulated monk fruit sweetener or allulose can be used in this recipe to create a sugar free option.

Can I use this syrup on pancakes?

This syrup is a thinner consistency, meant for adding to your favorite coffee drinks. I would not recommend using this specific recipe on pancakes as it's quite watery. You could increase the sugar content however to create a thicker syrup.

There are bits of spice and/or pumpkin puree a the bottom of my jar.

Even with using a fine mesh strainer you may find small bits left behind. If this bothers you, try using a spoon to add the syrup to your coffee verses pouring. The leftover bits settle at the bottom of the jar, so spooning it out should allow you to avoid getting those in your coffee cup.

How long will this syrup last?

This syrup should last in a sealed container in your fridge for about 5-6 days. Remember, this syrup doesn't have all the preservatives and additives in it that store bought syrups often do in order to last longer.

Top with a little whipped cream if you have it!
