Ingredients for Quick and Easy Slider Buns
- Salted Butter
- Milk & Water
- Sugar
- Salt
- Active Dry Yeast
- All Purpose Flour
Equipment for Making Slider Buns
- Stand Mixer (optional) – If you don’t have a stand mixer, you’ll just want a large bowl to mix the dough in. And I’ve included the recipes for hand kneading as well!
- Rolling Pin – You’ll need to roll the dough out before cutting, so grab a rolling pin.
- Small Biscuit Cutter – You can use a slider sized biscuit cutter if you have one OR use the ring part of a mason jar lid. Use the regular sized lids, not the wide mouth size, to stay closer to a slider bun size.
- Small Saucepan – For warming butter, milk, and water together.
- Baking Pan – A high side, non stick baking pan works well for this recipe (13X9) or you can split between a couple of round pans (e second round pan will still have room). Or a 12-inch cast iron skillet can be used.
How to Make Homemade Slider Buns
Start by melting butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Once melted, add in milk, water, sugar and salt and heat until just warm (105-110 degrees). Remove from heat and allow to cool if needed.
Transfer liquid to bowl of stand mixer. Add in active dry yeast and allow to bloom. This should take 5-10 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the top of the liquid looks frothy.
Begin adding flour, starting with 1 cup. Mix with a large spoon to incorporate, then add the second cup of flour and stir.
You’re looking for a sticky dough ball to start forming. Add little bits of flour, up to another 1/2 cup, until this is achieved.
Put dough hook on the mixer and let it knead for about 5 minutes. Remove the bowl from the stand mixer and cover with plastic wrap or tea towel with the dough still in it. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
Prepare your work surface by dusting lightly with flour. Begin rolling the ball of dough into a rectangular shape that is 1/2 inch thick.
Using a cutter made for slider sized buns or the band of a standard size mason jar lid, begin cutting your buns out.
Place cut buns on baking pan with the sides just touching. Continue this process until all dough is used.
Allow dough to rise for 30 minutes, and then bake in 375 degree oven for 10-12 minutes. Brush with butter at the end if desired.
Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Toasting the insides of the buns in a hot skillet before assembling is optional, but worth it!

Ingredients
- 1/4 Cup Butter 1/2 stick
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/3 Cup Water
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1 Tbsp Active Dry Yeast
- 2-2.5 Cups All Purpose Flour see notes for using whole wheat
Instructions
Prepare Dough
- In a small saucepan over lowest heat setting, add butter and allow to melt. Add in milk, water, sugar and salt. Heat to 105-110 degrees, stirring constantly.
- Transfer liquid to bowl of stand mixer (or large mixing bowl if kneading by hand). Make sure your liquid isn't too hot or it will kill your yeast.
- Stir in yeast and let sit for 5 minutes, or until frothy.
- Add in one cup of flour and stir. Add in second cup, stir again. Continue adding flour little bits at a time, up to another 1/2 cup, until a sticky dough starts to form.
- Put dough hook on stand mixer and allow to knead for 5 minutes. Remove bowl from stand mixer, leave dough inside, and cover with plastic wrap or tea towel. Allow to rest for 10 minutes.
Cut Biscuits
- After the rest time, dust your countertop with flour. Roll dough into a rectangular shape, 1/2 an inch thick.
- Use a small slider bun cutter or the ring of a standard size mason jar. Place the cut buns on a baking sheet, with the sides just touching. Repeat until all dough is used.
- Allow dough to rise 30 minutes.
Bake and Cut
- When your rise time is about halfway over, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes. You can brush with butter after baking if desired.
- Allow to cool slightly, then slice. Before serving, brush insides lightly with butter and toast in a hot skillet until golden brown (optional).
