Save For Later!

Looking for inspiration on prayers for your women’s small group? Take a look at the encouraging prayers for women’s Bible study sessions that I’ve put together in this post.

Participating in a women’s Bible study group can be so much fun. It is not only a beautiful way to connect with your sisters in Christ, but it is great for diving deep into the Word of God.

But as much as I love group Bible study sessions, I can also attest to the fact that it can push you out of your comfort zone. Especially if you aren’t used to speaking in front of people, and then you get asked to pray.

Which is why I’ve put together this post to hopefully help you feel more comfortable with praying. These sample prayers will help you see exactly how to pray for a women’s Bible study group. Let’s jump in!

Why You Should be Praying Before & After Bible Study

Studying the Bible is something that I am passionate about, simply because I have seen the fruit of it in my own personal walk with Christ.

However, if we aren’t careful, we can begin to idolize the act of “getting wisdom” instead of approaching Bible study as a way to know and love God more.

That’s why prayer is so important. Before we study the Bible, we can pray for God’s guidance to help us study with a right motive. After Bible study, we can ask for guidance in applying the truths we’ve found in scripture. It is also our opportunity to simply praise God for His goodness, for providing us with the wisdom found in His Word.

Praying helps you to stay focused on the real reason we study the Word of God. Not simply to obtain wisdom for wisdom’s sake, but to grow in your relationship with, and reverence of the One who created wisdom.

How to Use This Prayer Guide

While you can absolutely use this Bible study prayer guide word for word, I want to touch on the fact that there is nothing special about these specific prayers. They are simply prayers that I may pray myself when asking for the Lord’s guidance.

When you are praying in your own group setting, I hope that you will lean into your own relationship with the Lord, knowing that He values all prayers. Even if you stumble over your words or say something totally wrong, God values your true, heartfelt prayers far more than well-rehearsed prayers that aren’t from the heart.

So, use these sample prayers to inspire you, to help you see different areas of life that we frequently need prayers in. And remember – you can always pray for God to help you learn how to pray.

Opening Prayers for Women’s Bible Study

When it comes time to start you group session, you will want to have a short opening prayer. My prayers usually flow something like this, adding in specific requests for the particular group I’m in.

  • Invite the Lord into your group setting. Even though God is everywhere, all the time, there is something personal about slowing down and personally asking Gods presence to fill the space you are in.
  • Thank God for the opportunity and every person who has attended.
  • Ask for the Lord’s guidance and wisdom for the leader of the group. Ask for the hearts and minds of everyone to be open to receive His teachings.

Example One:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for this opportunity to gather together as a group of like-minded women, to pursue the knowledge of You. Thank for this home that we live in a place where the worship of you is permitted. God, we ask that you just fill this place with your presence. We long to know you and love more deeply. Fill our leader with your wisdom as she guides us in this study. Open all of our hearts and minds to receive the truth that is found in your Word. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Example Two:

Father, we welcome you here in this place. We ask that you guide us in your wisdom as we begin to study your Word. We pray for spiritual growth in each and every one of us, and that our hearts and minds would be open to receive whatever it is you have for us. We thank you for your faithful love, grace and mercy. In Jesus name, Amen.

Closing Prayers for Women’s Bible Study Group

You’ll have another opportunity to pray once your Bible study is complete. At the end of your session, there will probably be more specific prayers related to what you’ve just studied. You may even want to ask for specific prayer requests at this time from the ladies in your group.

  • Give thanks for the completed session. If someone mentioned an area of life they were redeemed in during the session, give God glory for that.
  • Ask for guidance for the upcoming week. This can be for strength to persevere in a specific struggle, or the help to stay on track with your study.
  • Thank God again. You can never thank Him too much!
