How to Utilize Your Free Printable Thanksgiving Meal Planner
This free Thanksgiving planner has 2 different pages.
On the first page, you’ll find a place for your guest list, so you know just how many you’re cooking for.
A to-do list (kind of like a Thanksgiving Dinner Checklist) to plan out the day to make sure you have plenty of time to prepare all of those delicious dishes.
And a notes section. Use this to remember where that new recipe is you want to try or notes on who is bringing what.
The second page is set up to print with two sections, side by side.
On one side, you’ll find a place to plan your entire menu. Jot down all of the different recipes you’ll want to see on your dinner table. There’s a section for the main dishes and side dishes. Then, there’s a separate section for desserts (it’s not Thanksgiving without all the desserts!)
Right next to the menu, you’ll find a free printable thanksgiving grocery list. Having the grocery list right next to the menu plan is a great way to make sure you get every ingredient needed.
When you get ready to go to the grocery store, cut off this half of the free printable thanksgiving grocery shopping list and take it with you!

A Southern Thanksgiving Menu
When it comes to Thanksgiving Day in my family, there are some dishes that are considered staples. Here are some of our absolute must have:
Main Dishes for Thanksgiving
- Fried Turkey – A cajun fried turkey is our favorite way to have turkey. We use this oil-less turkey fryer – so no hot oil! Having my husband fry the turkey also frees up my oven space.
- Baked Ham – Some people like turkey and some like ham – so we just cook both around here!
- Cornbread Dressing – We don’t do stuffing, we do dressing. Chicken cornbread dressing is the dish that people wait for when Thanksgiving rolls around. So maybe you consider it a side – but it is a must have main dish around here!
Southern Side Dishes for Thanksgiving
- Rice Dressing – I’m not certain how common rice dressing is in other places, but in my family, it’s a staple. Creamy rice and ground beef.
- Mashed Potatoes with Gravy – You can’t have Thanksgiving without creamy homemade mashed potatoes and gravy!
- Sweet Potato Casserole – Is this technically a dessert or a side? I’m not really sure what! But in our house, it’s always a side dish, so that’s what I’m treating it as here.
- Corn Casserole – you could just have a side of corn – but we like to turn it into a delicious corn bread casserole. Add cheese and jalapeno for a little kick!
- Squash Casserole – same as the corn. You could just have sauteed squash, but we go ahead and turn it into another casserole. (Can you tell that we like casseroles around here?)
- Green Bean Casserole – I’ll admit, I used to hate green bean casserole.
- Deviled Eggs – You can never have too many deviled eggs! This recipe yields a dozen Thanksgiving deviled eggs, but you can easily double or triple depending on how many you’re feeding!
- Cranberry Sauce – If you’re wanting to make delicious homemade cranberry sauce, be sure to try out this recipe.
- Rolls – You can buy storebought dinner rolls, but if you’re wanting to try your hand at easy homemade yeast rolls, this recipe is so easy to follow.
Southern Thanksgiving Desserts
- Pumpkin Pie – You can’t have Thanksgiving dinner without pumpkin pie can you?
- Buttermilk Pie – Don’t be fooled by the name. Buttermilk pie isn’t bitter at all! It’s a simple pie to add to your Thanksgiving table.
- Pecan Pie – Another staple pie for a southern Thanksgiving is Pecan Pie. The thick, sugary pie filling topped with delicious pecans make the perfect dessert for a Fall day.
- Pineapple Pie – This pie is so incredibly simple. You can have a delicious pie ready to go in about an hour!
- Apple Pie – A rich apple pie with a flaky crust – what can I say besides yum?!
Let me know what dishes are a staple for your holiday meals. Happy Thanksgiving!
