Spring Homemaking Ideas
1. Plant a Garden
What better way to welcome warm weather than by starting a garden? Whether it’s a tomato plant on your patio or a full vegetable garden in your own backyard, planting something is an easy way to connect with nature.
Take a day trip to visit your local farmers market or nursery to buy seedlings to plant. Or if you have time and space, you can always start your own seeds.
The Family Garden Plan book is a great resource for planning out your first garden!
2. Thrift for New Decor
Sometimes you just want a little something new to update your space. Sure, you could go hit up the nearest home decor store. But one of the best ways to refresh your home, especially if you’re on a budget, is by thrifting.
Spring is garage sale season, making it the perfect time to find unique decor items for your home. You can often find quality items in excellent condition secondhand. You won’t break the bank, but you’ll still be able to add a touch of newness to your space.
Items to Thrift for this Spring
- New throw blanket
- Table cloth, placemats
- New centerpiece items
- Light & airy curtains
- Spring artwork
- Serving platter
3. Decorate with Natural Elements
One of my favorite thinks about Spring is watching all of the sleeping trees from Winter come back to life. The leafless trees are full of new foliage, blowing in the breeze. The wet, brown grass begins to grow rapidly, sprinkled with small patches of colorful flowers.
You can replicate the natural elements from outside within your home. Use wooden accents, woven baskets, and a spring bouquet of wildflowers to brighten up your dining room table. You can even use your fresh backyard chicken eggs to decorate with!
4. Make Fun Seasonal Drinks
Spring is the perfect season for fresh produce like strawberries, lemons, and mint. And I don’t know about you, but my kids love it when I surprise them with a refreshing treat outside.
Try making a refreshing strawberry lemonade, an iced lavender latte, or a honey-sweetened matcha. These drinks are a fun way to celebrate the warmer weather.
To make it extra cute, look for a Spring inspired pitcher and glasses to enjoy your drinks in. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on this. Thrift stores are usually loaded down with dishes and cups that you can snag for a few dollars!
5. Try New Spring Recipes with Seasonal Flavors
A great way to embrace Spring is through its flavors! This means it’s the perfect time to try some new recipes (or bring back those family favorites) that use seasonal produce.
Not sure what’s “in season”? Visit a farmers market and pick out fresh produce for a new spring-inspired dish. You can also create a spring themed meal plan using this printable meal planning master list.
6. Grab a New Book
Spring is a great time to visit your local library and find a fresh read. Whether it’s a homemaking book, a motherhood devotional, or a novel to read in your own backyard, this is a good idea for slowing down and enjoying the season.
I feel like classic novels are so relaxing to read during Spring time. There’s just something about sitting in the warm sunshine, reading a lighthearted story with a good outcome.
Some of my favorite springtime novels to read are Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, Little Women, and anything by Jane Austen.
7. Make Homemade Jams or Jelly
Spring time is berry season, which makes it the perfect time for making your own homemade jams and jellies! Grab some basic canning supplies, go pick some berries, and enjoy delicious jelly and jam for months to come.

8. Make a Spring Simmer Pot
Fill your home with fresh air and the scent of Spring by making a spring bouquet-inspired simmer pot. Use lemon slices, fresh herbs, and vanilla beans to make your home smell wonderful without the use of artificial fragrances.
9. Make a Bird Feeder
Welcome birds back after the long winter by making your own bird feeder! This fun activity is perfect to do with kids.
Hang the feeder where you can easily see if from a window. Everyone will enjoy seeing the different birds coming and going throughout the days.

11. Plan Outdoor Dinners
Take advantage of perfect weather by dining outside! Whether it’s a lunch picnic in a local park, or family dinner on the patio, outdoor meals are a fun way to enjoy the warm weather.
12. Make time for Watercoloring
I’m not an artist, but I still love to try my hand at watercolor. And during spring, there is so much beauty to look at, that it’s hard not to feel inspired.
Grab a simple book to teach you how to watercolor, inexpensive paint and brushes, and plan to spend a little time this season getting creative!
13. Print Spring Inspired Art Work
There are so many free printables out there for artwork, which makes it a wonderful way to change things up seasonally.
