As a certified planner and journal fanatic (seriously, give me some good paper, a smooth writing pen, and a cup of coffee and I am HAPPY), I’ve decided to put together a list of some of the best prayer journals that I’ve found to date.

Some of these I’ve used personally, some I’ve gifted, and some of them I am still waiting patiently for my budget to allow me to enjoy one day. I’ve broken them down in to “best for” categories below for you.

Best for Prayer Warriors

Coffee and Bible Time Prayer Journal

If you’re looking for a prayer journal that is well organized, fully set up and ready to go, this journal from Coffee and Bible Time may be what you need!

With 9 prayer journal sections already set up you can receive this journal in the mail and immediately get started. It even comes with sticky note pads, and you can check out their Youtube channel for a teaching course on using your journal.

You’ll find section for praise and thanksgiving, urgent prayer requests, and a section with each of the days of the week set up for a specific topic

There are guided prayer prompts, as well as a section to record God’s faithfulness over the years. Because of the structure, I think this journal could work wonderfully as a war room prayer journal.

It also doesn’t hurt that it is beautifully designed. This would make a perfect gift for the teen girls in your life as well.

Best Morning Time Journal

pages of prayer journal with scripture and words good morning God

Good Morning God Prayer Journal

This journal is great to use in your morning quiet time. With bible verses right on the page, you’ll be able to focus your mind immediately on the God’s word.

Under the daily verse, you’ll find a section to write out your daily prayers.

Each day also has a page titled “God is good because” which shifts your mind to praise and thanksgiving. I can’t think of a better way to start that day than by meditating on the goodness of God!

Christian Planner/Prayer Journal Combo

Daily Prayer Journal/Planner Combo

This next journal is on my “wish list” for future prayer journals – primarily because it has so much built in to one binder. It is actually titled as a Christian Planner/Prayer Journal. I think having your daily reflections right there with your to-do list would be encouraging as you go throughout the day.

The daily pages have a daily devotion section, with a bible verse following by a few reflection questions. There is also a to-do list and notes section, along with a “today I am thankful for” section.

At the end of each week, there is a section for Sunday Sermon Notes that I absolutely love. You can write down prayer requests made known to you at church, or just write down notes from the teaching of your pastor.

The one thing I will point out with this journal is that there is not a blank page dedicated to actually writing out long prayers. So, if you prefer to actually put pen to paper during your prayer time, this one may not be for you. Or you could always have a separate, blank journal, that you use for longer praying journaling.

Most Practical (& Pretty) Prayer Journal

Prayer Journal for Women with Gold Cover

This product ranks as one of the best prayer journal options on Amazon. With almost 4,000 five-star reviews, and a very affordable price, it definitely makes this journal worth mentioning!

This journal has daily pages that are laid out nicely into sections. Each day you’ll find a page that has a separate prayer section for personal, family & friends, and community. The page next to that is a nice blank page that you can write out additional prayers, followed by writing out 3 things you are thankful for.

Honestly, if you are mainly looking for a journal to write out your prayers in without prompts or tons of sections – this is probably the best bet.

Best for Creative Journaling

If you’re looking for a journal that is not overcomplicated and allows you the space to express your creativity, check out this 3 Month Prayer Journal! The simple black and white pages allow for space to write out your prayers, while also including creative touches such as calligraphy or small drawings.

Each day follows the same structure on prompts. You will find a box for “Today’s Verse”, “Lord teach me…”, “I am thankful for…”, and Prayer Requests.

You can select a super affordable paperback option, or a slightly more expensive spiral bound.

With over 5,000 5-star Amazon Reviews, I think it’s safe to say that the simple design of this prayer journal is hit!

Best for Long Prayers and Tracking Prayer Requests

Christian Prayer and Gratitude Journal by Lauren Ibach

These little journals have 3 beautiful covers to choose from. The compact size of this journal makes it easy to carry to bible studies or church. There is a built-in bookmark to help you keep track of where you were last writing. It is considered a guided journal, meaning that it has pages dedicated to specific topics.

For example, you will find pages for Gratitude, Repentance and Confession, and Praise. These pages have TONS of space for writing, which I prefer to only have a few lines to write on.

There is also a Prayer Request page, where you can write down the date of the request as well as what you prayed for. Right next to it, there is a section for recording details of how you see God answer the prayer. Keeping track of answered prayers is an amazing way to praise God’s faithfulness.

Overall, I love how this journal is compact but doesn’t skimp of the space for your own writings!

Free Prayer Notebook Printables

I have to mention this one here because well, it’s free. This link will download a free printable I created for those who want to do a DIY prayer journal. You’ll find a daily prayer page, prayer request page, and couple other pages. You can find the full blog post here if you want to check out how to use the pages.

Best Basic and Affordable – But Pretty

Christian Art Gifts Scripture Journal – Buy Here!

This is the perfect journal to use as a gift for the Christian women in your life or for your daily prayer journal. It is basic, compact in size, beautiful and extremely affordable!

You’ll get a simple journal with 128 lined pages for writing out your daily prayers to the Lord. There is enough space on each page to write out long prayers, straight from the heart.

Each page has a verse at the bottom of it, but other than that, this journal is meant to be a blank slate for you to pour out your prayers.

Prayer Journal with Devotional

Prayer Journal with 52 Week Scripture, Devotional & Guided Prayer

This prayer journal is a bit different than the previous journals I’ve mentioned – but if you are wanting something with a lot of direction on what to pray for – you may enjoy this style!

It is created to be used as a 52-week devotional with prayer. Each week has a section of scripture that you will be reading, reflecting on, and praying over that week. Each week also has short devotions included. You will find a section for thanking God, asking for Him to teach and guide you, as well as a place to pour out the things on your heart and prayer requests.

This layout actually makes it nice to use with your small groups. You and the ladies in your group can be reading and reflecting on the same verses together.

The simple black and white design also allows for you to customize it with colorful pens, washi tape, or any other creative ways that you prefer.

Keep in mind that this one isn’t set the same as other daily prayer journals, but I still think it could be a great help to someone desiring a journal with a built-in plan.

Prayer Journal with Bible Study

Prayer Journal on The Gospel – Buy Here!

These last two products are also a bit different than your typical prayer journal – they are more of a study/devotional with a blank page for prayer.

Even though it may not fit the typical mold for a prayer journal, I still think these little books could be a perfect companion for your daily prayer time.

They are set up as a 30-day devotional journal, and currently come in two options – one over Humility and one over The Gospel. They are beautifully designed and would be a great if you don’t have a lot of time to journal.

So, if you’re looking for a devotional with room to journal your prayers afterwards, these are great options!

Journal Prompts for Prayer Journal

If you’ve found yourself praying the same prayer over and over again (nothing wrong with that) but you desire to pray over more topics, check out this list of prayers prompts that I’ve put together.

Some days I write out beautiful love letters to God during praise. Other days, my thoughts are more jumbled because I am praying about something hard, and I just really need to pour out my thoughts before the Lord.

There’s no right or wrong way to prayer journal, but I have found that some days a journal prompt helps me recall something that I had been wanting to pray over.

This book from Donald Whitney has also been a huge help in teaching me how to pray through God’s Word.

Are Prayer Journals good?

Like so many things in life, it depends on how you view something.

A prayer journal has been one of the powerful tools I have used to help shape a consistent prayer life.

However, you have to keep in mind that a prayer journal is a tool to help you. Your prayer life should never depend on your ability to sit down and journal.

As a believer, you have access to The Father anytime and anywhere.

So, while I enjoy those quiet morning time hours in scripture and prayer before the kids wake up, I don’t require them in order to have time with The Lord.

Is a prayer journal necessary?

Absolutely not. Just like I mentioned before, a prayer journal is just a tool.

You have everything you need for access to God because of Jesus.

Why should I start a Prayer Journal?

Now that we’ve established, they are absolutely not necessary, let’s talk about why they are helpful for some.

Writing out prayers is a way to keep your mind focused on the words you are praying.

If you are wanting to be intentional about praying for many people and topics regularly, a well-organized prayer journal is a practical way to keep track of who and what.

A prayer journal also makes a wonderful gift (maybe for the ladies in your small group or the friend who has just come to know Christ).

Your prayer journal is also an awesome keepsake. You’ll be able to go back and read the things you were struggling with or praying over and see God’s faithfulness. Your prayers of praise and thanksgiving can be given to your children when they are older. I have a few handwritten prayers of thanksgiving from grandparents. I love seeing their words to The Lord written out in their own handwriting. One day, I hope to be able to pass little things like that down to my children and grandchildren.
