Spring Cleaning vs. Everyday Cleaning
You might be wondering—what’s the difference between spring cleaning and regular daily or weekly cleaning? While everyday cleaning keeps your home tidy (I use Zone Cleaning to keep my home clean on the regular), spring cleaning goes much deeper. Here’s how they compare:
Everyday cleaning includes tasks like wiping countertops, washing dishes, making beds. These are the things you do regularly to keep your house presentable.
Spring cleaning is focused on hitting areas of the house that don’t make it on your regular to-do lists. Think of things like light fixtures, under furniture, etc. It is also the perfect time to declutter and reorganize storage units.
Spring Cleaning Made Simple
Like I mentioned before, we’re going to keep things simple. We’re going to break cleaning tasks down by room, with and select the top 5 tasks for each space.
We’re not going to make a huge, unrealistic list of things to do. Plans like these seem like a good idea, but they usually end up making us like failures because we can’t get to it all. Five tasks allows you to freshen up a space without the overwhelm.

Spring Cleaning FAQ’s & Tips
How to Get Motivated to Clean
I’m not usually one to talk about cleaning motivation. That’s because consistent, daily cleaning has been a matter of discipline in my life, not motivation. My motivation goes up and down on a daily basis, which means it cannot always be the thing leading me to take action.
However, in a case like this, where you need to get started on a big project, I think it can be fun and helpful to motivate yourself. So here are some motivational tips:
- Put on some music. A fun playlist makes everything better.
- Set a timer. Give yourself a set amount of time to get a task done. Knowing that it isn’t going to take your entire day will likely help you get started.
- Start with the easiest task. Sometimes, the first thing you do is just to get moving.
- Recruit family members. Everyone in the household can pitch in. If you have older children,
- Make a plan. A free printable spring cleaning checklist will keep you on track and let you know exactly what to do next!
Make a Cleaning Caddy
If you don’t have one yet, you need to create a cleaning caddy! This makes cleaning in general so much more convenient. All you need is:
- A plastic container with a handle on it. I love this one pictured because it has small compartments.
- Simplified cleaning supplies. I don’t keep every type of cleaning product in my caddy. Just the things that I use over and over. An all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, and bathroom cleaner usually covers most of my needs.
- Microfiber rags for wiping and drying, a scrub brush, microfiber handheld duster, and cleaning gloves.
When to Start Spring Cleaning
There’s no official start date for spring cleaning, but the best time to begin is when the weather starts warming up. As soon as you can open the windows and let in some fresh air, it’s a great time to get started.
For many people, the good time to clean is in March or April. This gives you a head start before the busy summer months begin. But really, you can start whenever it feels right for you!
How Long Should Spring Cleaning Take
There is no one size fits all to how long you should spend Spring cleaning. You may be able to get through your cleaning tasks in a weekend, or it may take a couple of weeks. It all depends on your schedule, size and current order of your home.
My advice would be to pick 1-3 spaces a day and just keep moving forward little bits at a time.
That’s it, friends! I hope this spring cleaning guide and checklist are a help to you.
