Advent Copywork Pages (Free Printable)
This Advent Copywork Printable helps families slow down during December while keeping homeschool learning simple and Christ-centered. Use these beautiful passages from Scripture, hymns, and poetry to guide reflection and handwriting practice throughout the Christmas season.
December always feels like it moves at a different pace. Between Christmas baking, family gatherings, and church events, our homeschool days tend to look a little less structured—and that’s okay. I’ve learned to lean into this slower rhythm while still keeping little hands and minds engaged.
Copywork has become one of my favorite ways to keep learning simple during Advent. It’s beneficial, meaningful, and allows us to pause and reflect on the true reason we celebrate—Christ’s coming.
This Advent Copywork Printable was created with that in mind: to give your family gentle academic practice while filling your home with Scripture, hymns, and poetry that point your hearts toward Jesus.

A Simple Way to Teach Language Arts
We use copywork during all the seasons, but I truly enjoy the benefits of it during really busy seasons. It is such a simple way to teach language arts. And during the weeks leading up the Christmas, simplicity is always appreciated.
There’s no prep required—just print the pages, choose a passage, and invite your children to copy it carefully. As they write, they’re not only practicing handwriting, spelling and grammar but also meditating on timeless truths from God’s Word.
How Much to Copy Each Day
Your free copywork pages are for all ages. That means that you’ll need to make adjustments based on your children’s abilities.
Older children may be able to copy an entire passage a day, while younger children may need to break the long passages into multiple days. They can copy in print or cursive, depending on their abilities.
I generally set a timer and have my kids work for as long as the timer is going. Typically, that’s 10 minutes. If they finish the selection before then, great. If not, we will pick back up the next day. I ask that they pay close attention to their spelling and complete it in their best writing. If I notice errors in spelling, they will need to make corrections.
What’s Included in the Advent Copywork Printable
Inside the printable, you’ll find 14 passages that draw your family’s attention to the beauty of the gospel story:
- Bible Verses – including Isaiah 9:6, John 1:9–10, John 1:14, Luke 2:4–14, Galatians 4:4–5, and John 3:16–17. Each verse reminds us of God’s promise fulfilled and the grace made known in Christ’s birth.
- Hymn & Carol Excerpts – from favorites like Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World, Away in a Manger, and Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. These familiar lines are full of praise, written in a way children love to sing and copy.
- Poetry Selections – thoughtful excerpts from In the Bleak Midwinter by Christina Rossetti and The Waits by Margaret Deland.
Each page has the passage at the top, with a lined writing area at the bottom. This keeps the child from having to flip back and forth between multiple pages. Additionally I tried to keep the line spacing at a size that can accommodate writers of all abilities.
Fun Ways to Use Christmas Copywork
There’s no single “right way” to use these pages, which is one of the things I love most about copywork. Here are a few ideas and tips for incorporating it into your homeschool.
- Morning Time Devotional – Begin the day by reading the selection aloud together and discuss some of the truths found in the passage.
- Recitation/Memorization – Choose some of the selections to use for recitation or memorization. You can never go wrong with memorizing beautiful passages of scripture or poetry.
- Enjoy the Music – Throughout the Advent season, take time to listen to the hymns and carols that your children will be copying from. This is such a fun, and simple, way to enjoy the season together.
- Get Creative – Have your children create an illustration to go along with the days passage. They can do this in a separate notebook or flip their paper over and draw on the back.
