Budget Friendly Tips

If you’re worried about the cost of purchasing gifts, here are a few helpful tips and ideas to keep your shopping within budget.

Think Practically

Purchasing a gift that enhances the daily life of a homemaker are often times more appreciated than certain high-cost items. Think of things like useful kitchen gadgets & organizational tools. These items are often not that expensive, but they make great gifts because they make life easier for the recipient.

Thrift, Thrift, Thrift

Look, you may be a little weirded out by the thought of thrifting a gift. But the truth is, thrift stores are loaded with perfectly good items that often times have seen little to no wear or use. I have found $70 throw blankets at Goodwill for just $3 that still look brand new. So, if you’re on a tight budget, and have some good thrift stores near you, check them out!

(Personally, I love thrifting items and would never object to receiving something used as a gift. However, you know your recipient better than I do, so keep that in mind while shopping.)

DIY Gifts

DIY gifts are another budget-friendly option. Homemade treats, hand-knit items, or personalized items can be thoughtful, useful and easy on your wallet. Go ahead and check out this full DIY gift guide that I’ve put together.

Practical Gifts for Homemakers

Just for Her

New Planner

Homemakers are busy. There is always something to do or somewhere to be. A nice planner gives her somewhere to keep track of everything she needs to, all in one place. This Hopefuel planner has a beautiful canvas cover and combines planning with prayer time.

Chemical Free Makeup & Skincare

We can all appreciate some good self-care items. With Toups and Co. you can gift high quality cosmetics and skin care products without toxins.

Study Bible or Journaling bible

A new Bible is a beautiful gift to give. A new study Bible provides commentary on the original text. I have had my CSB Study Bible for years and I still suggest it to anyone looking for a new Bible. I also have an Interleaved ESV Bible which is perfect for Bible journaling with a full blank page every other page.

Books

As a fellow book lover, I am always thrilled when someone gifts me with new books to read. If you know a book-loving homemaker, I’m sure she would also be excited to receive some new reads. Books are an excellent gift to thrift. You can often find books that look brand new at resale shops.

Some favorite books that I think homemakers would enjoy are Bread of Life, The Lifegiving Home, and Hard is Not the Same Thing as Bad. Here are a couple of additional blog posts with specific book recommendations:

Kitchen Items

Homemakers tend to spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing and serving meals for their family. Which is why kitchen related items are so valuable.

Stand Mixer

A stand mixer is so useful in a kitchen that makes homemade goods. A KitchenAid is usually the mixer everyone talks about (I have one and I can attest that it is wonderful and totally worth the money), but you can find lower priced options with good reviews on Amazon as well.

The most important thing is that you consider the size of the family. If your homemaker needs to bake multiple loaves at a time, make sure you get a large stand mixer. This large Bosch mixer is a good option.

Pretty Canisters

Kitchen canisters make a practical and stylish gift for homemakers, offering organized storage and adding charm to any kitchen. Choose a set with a design that complements their home decor.

Serving Dishes

If you have a homemaker who likes to entertain, consider buying a nice set of serving dishes. The next time they have company over, they will appreciate this thoughtful and practical gift. And this is one of those items that thrift and antique stores are loaded with.

ELECTRIC PRESSURE COOKER

My electric pressure cooker is probably the most used item in my kitchen. Being able to cook ribs, roast, and anything else without heating the kitchen up from the oven in just 30 minutes is wonderful. If there was one kitchen appliance I had to choose to keep, it would be this one.

Immersion Blender

Another useful kitchen gadget is an immersion blender. This handheld blender makes blending things so simple. You can puree soups, make salsas, blend batter, and so much more.

Caraway Cookware, Bakeware & Food Storage

If you’re looking for an all-in-one company to give your homemakers kitchen equipment a full makeover, you have to check out Caraway! You can get coordinating pots, pans, baking sheets, meal prep and storage containers. But they aren’t only nice to look at it. They are also non-toxic, non-stick, and heavy. I’ve personally been using these pots and pans for over a year now and love them!

Breadmaking Supplies

Have a bread making enthusiast in your life? Then you need to get her set up with some convenient bread making supplies! Here’s some bread-related ideas:

Cute Apron

I know not everyone is into wearing an apron but hear me out. I would much rather wear one and keep my clothes clean than not. Which is why I think a cute apron is a wonderful gift for someone who spends a lot of time in the kitchen.

Coffee Making Supplies

I’m a firm believer that a good cup of coffee is the best way to start the day. Enjoying my coffee, in a quiet house, is a personal favorite activity of mine. And because of that, I’ve accumulated some favorite coffee supplies that I think any coffee drinking homemaker can appreciate.

Ember Coffee Mug

No matter how many times you get interrupted while trying to sip your coffee, this temperature control mug will ensure it stays hot. This mug works for anyone who enjoys warm beverages, so not just coffee drinkers.

Keurig, espresso machine, etc.

There is no end to the number of at home coffee making equipment that you can purchase. Everything from a single serving Keurig to a full-blown espresso machine with all the frills.

Cold Brew Pitcher

This little gadget is so inexpensive and practical for anyone who enjoys cold brew coffees. Just soak the coffee grounds overnight in the cold brew pitcher and enjoy!

Coffee Bar Decor

Grab a few things to help dress up your homemakers coffee bar. Little touches like this are what make a home feel cozy. So, grab a cute coffee bar organizer, some new coffee mugs, or cute canisters for syrups.

Around the House

Cordless vacuum cleaner

When I say that my cordless battery powered vacuum cleaner has been one of the best gifts I’ve received, I’m not exaggerating. It is so incredibly helpful for a quick vacuuming of our main living areas multiple times a day (which is necessary with lots of littles running around). It’s lightweight and easy to store because of its small size.

Photo Prints

Consider having some family photos printed in nice frames to use around the home. Smallwood Home is one of my favorite places to order framed prints from.

New Bedding

Having a nice space to unwind at the end of a day is so important. A new bedding set can help achieve this by adding style and comfort to the bedroom. This high quality, cooling bedding set from REST is perfect to do that.

Gardening Supplies

A lot of homemakers, myself included, love gardening as well. It’s a way to provide nutritious food for our family and save some money at the grocery store. So, if you have a garden loving homemaker, why not get some new gardening products?

  • Harvest Basket – Pick up a new vegetable harvesting basket and load it up with gardening goodies. Keep an eye out for woven baskets at thrift stores or purchase a basket specifically for harvesting.
  • Gardening AttireGardening gloves, boots, or a hat would all make nice gifts for the gardeners.

Take some of the stress out of weekly meal planning and prep work by signing up for a meal planning service! This can be a box that is delivered to your home with the groceries included, or just a weekly service that sends you a meal plan with a grocery list.

Cleaning Service

Purchasing an annual cleaning service plan with monthly cleanings or just a onetime deep clean is a great idea for a practical gift for homemakers.

Date Night

Sometimes as homemakers, what we really want is a date night out where we don’t have to do the cooking and cleaning. No matter how much you love what you do, sometimes you just need a little break! So, get a gift card to your homemaker’s favorite restaurant, provide childcare, and send her on her way!
